Man forsakes free will for art

Would Chad Wanzek answer his phone Saturday as he walked around Philadelphia letting strangers control his day? Outlook not so good.
As he asked his Mattel Magic 8-Ball if he should return my call, the triangular answer settling through blue-bubble goo, serendipity was on my side. If it wasn’t fate, then I should probably credit [...]

David Carr Q&A

New York Times reporter, blogger and video star David Carr was at the annual Association of Alternative Newsweeklies convention in Philadelphia this weekend reminding alt–weeklies they can keep their ships afloat. He stressed the importance of multimedia as staff cutbacks, the uncertainty of profit and the uncharted push to the Internet continue to challenge the [...]

Multimedia: Frankford Avenue Clean-up

My group for Temple University’s Multimedia Urban Reporting Lab trekked up and down Frankford Avenue on Saturday to document the bi-annual clean-up. After Philadelphia Brewing Company shared a few of their kegs with us and volunteers, we put together this multimedia package to show what they accomplished. Click on for the goods.

I hope you’ll read the piece and [...]

Philly Grill: Tour Guide Disciplinarian Blondell Reynolds Brown

Last Thursday, City Council unanimously approved a bill that will institute a professional licensing process for Philadelphia tour guides, mandating that they test at 70 percent or better if they plan on declaiming publicly about the Founding Fathers. We put Councilwoman Blondell Reynolds Brown, who introduced the bill, on the spot with a quick Philadelphia [...]

The Weekender: A.D.D. in A.C.

From Julio to Jay-Z … The talent playing Atlantic City this weekend is truly an absurd mix that spans half a century, crossing many demographics. First you’ve got Julio Iglesias Friday and Saturday at Caesars. I’ve gotta be honest, I have no idea what Julio sings or what the draw is, but he’s said to [...]
